Google Maps Live View AR walking navigation rolls out

Google is finally rolling out its new Augmented Reality walking navigation feature, for all users, which has been named “Live View”. The Google Maps Live View feature was initially announced at Google I/O 2018, and after that, it was in testing mode. In February this year, it was announced for Pixel phones at Google I/O 2019. After all, Google has announced the rollout of a beta version of it’s Google Maps Live View AR navigation feature for Android and IOS.

What is Google Maps Live View?

Google Maps Live View is a new application of Augmented Reality that helps users to find direction while walking on the street or a place. Similarly, the feature shows real-time navigation on Google Maps using your phone’s camera. And thankfully, it’s so simple to use.

To use Maps Live View, you just need to hold your phone up next the street and your surroundings. And after that, you’ll see arrows and direction on the top of your camera view.

Using the feature, you can:

  • Find out direction while walking
  • Get real-time navigation on the street

With the tool, you can easily locate your destination or place among many buildings and surroundings. The ‘Live View’ will be available on ARCore and ARKit enabled devices and in the locations where Google has Street view. It’s available only for walking direction navigation.

How you can use Live View?

To use the feature, you just need to follow a few simple steps:

  1. Search your location on Maps where you want to walk, or you can simply tap it on the Maps.
  2. Tap on the directions button that’s in the bottom.
  3. Select the walking direction that’s on the top of the screen.
  4. Tap on the Live View option at the bottom of the screen

The tool was a much-awaited feature. And it can be called among one of the big announcement from the company. Though the feature has been rolled out from today for everyone, it might take some days or weeks, that’s depending on the pushed update from the company.

Another AR direction feature, that Apple has applied for a new patent. It would direct you in the real-world footage, captured by your phone’s camera. However, Apple’s feature is not the same as Google Maps Live View, as this’s for car direction.
